Caring for a loved one with dementia takes us down roads that we never thought we would travel, often with few signposts to guide us. And it can be a journey that feels lonely for both caregivers and their loved ones. Among Friends Dementia Social Respite Program provides a welcoming space where individuals with dementia can join a community with supportive staff and volunteers and can participate in activities designed to enhance their quality of life while providing caregivers time for themselves to work, rest, connect with friends, or do the things that need to be done. Available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am to 3 pm, this program provides a supportive and joyful atmosphere where caregivers know their loved ones are respected and well cared for.
What Makes the Among Friends Dementia Program Different

Among Friends Social Dementia Program focuses on creating a safe and supportive environment tailored to the needs of people living with dementia. With an almost one-to-one ratio of staff and volunteers to participants, we make sure that participants are socially engaged, having fun, and well looked after.
Key features include:
Small group settings that encourage socialization without overwhelming participants.
Structured activities designed to stimulate memory, creativity, and physical movement.
Experienced staff and volunteers trained in dementia care who understand the importance of patience and empathy.
Activities That Engage and Inspire
The program’s activities are carefully chosen to meet the needs, interests, and abilities of participants. These activities promote a sense of accomplishment and joy, which can be especially important for those experiencing memory loss.

Examples of activities include:
Memory games that encourage recall and recognition.
Art and music that stimulate creativity and self-expression.
Gentle exercise to maintain mobility and physical health.
Storytelling and reminiscencing that foster connection through shared experiences.
