Music, Music, Music

Tommy Bentz of Brickhouse Music in River Falls answered our call when we put out a request to the community for a guitar we could use for our Among Friends singalongs. Margaret, one of our new volunteers and a musician, was presented with this wonderful guitar.

Tommy's gift is just one example of how supportive the Pierce County community is of our program. The lives of our participants and their caregivers are enriched by the care and thoughtfulness of our volunteers and the community.

Music is a very important part of Among Friends weekly activities. While recent memories might fade, people experiencing dementia seem to hold onto the songs that meant so much to them as children and as adults.

Research has shown that music stimulates the brain and enhances the memory of individuals experiencing dementia. Studies have also discovered that participating in programs featuring music improve mental health, physical health, and social functioning.

Among Friends and music go together. If you know someone who might like to join our program, please contact us at amongfriendsrf@gmail.com or (715)293-2561. Starting on June 10th, we will be adding a second day of service! Now families can count on us for both Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m to 3 pm.
